At Alec Tiranti, we stock all the essential equipment needed for woodcarving. We are proud to sell hand-forged tools, made from a special alloy steel, heat-treated for excellent edge-holding ability. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or a woodcarving novice, we have all the tools it takes to get started at your work desk.
Chisels, Gouges, and V-Tools
We supply a range of chisels, gouges and V-tools from Stubai. These feature an internal steel ferrule to avoid the risk of the handle splitting, giving you a long-lasting product of the highest quality. Chisels are available in a variety of styles, including straight, salmon bend to bent, backbent, and fishtail. We are pleased to provide some newer products, such as the Stubai chip knives, which offer traditional knife profiles for use in chip carving, whittling, and general workbench applications.
When you carve wood, you are taking part in a craft that has a long history. This is evident by the existence of adzes, which date back to the stone age, and are still used today. In a similar shape to an axe, but with the cutting edge perpendicular to the handle, they can be used for both smoothing and carving wood. Our adzes are available with a straight option recommended for roughing out and making flat areas and joints, and a gouge option recommended for carving and hollowing out.
To really set yourself up for woodcarving, why not get a woodcarving tool set? We stock a set of six unshouldered palm tools for light woodcarving, lino cutting, and wood block cutting. Other sets include one specifically for lino cutting, and a wide range of tools in a tool roll, which comes in either a set of fourteen, or twenty.
To keep your tools in top condition, we are also your port of call for sharpening equipment. We have an array of different stones to choose from, such as natural Arkansas bench stones, Arkansas slip stones, India bench stones, silicone carbide slip stones, or a Kidney gouge slip stone in red aloxite. Within this category, we also offer honing oil to lubricate, clean and revive any oilstones that may become clogged with old oil and debris. Lastly, we also have a leather strop and our own recipe strop dressing, which is capable of achieving the finest edge on any tool.
In addition to the products outlined, we also supply a range of other related products. We stock cabinet scrapers that can help with the final working of knotty and difficult grained timbers, a range of abrasive papers and cloths and holding devices to help keep your work in place. We also have hand made brown suede tool rolls, and a range of different replacement handles.
